Stainless Steel Grade 15-7 (UNS S15700) Supplier

Properties and Appearance

Stainless Steel Grade 15-7, also known as 15-7PH or ASTM A693, is a precipitation-hardening stainless steel alloy typically with a silvery-grey bright, metallic appearance and a smooth surface finish.

When strengthened through precipitation hardening, Grade 15-7 exhibits high strength and hardness, even at elevated temperatures. It possesses resistance to atmospheric corrosion, mild chemicals, and some organic acids. It offers good wear and fatigue resistance, making it suitable for applications subject to repeated loading / stress and it is slightly magnetic in its hardened state. Grade 15-7 maintains a good level of ductility, allowing it to be formed and fabricated easily.

The following datasheet provides an overview of stainless steel-grade 15-7.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment

Machinability

When hardened, grade 15-7 stainless steel has good machinability.

Welding

Use common arc and resistance methods. Do not use Inert gas shielding to prevent aluminum oxidation.

Heat Treatment

Cold work solution treated material for condition C material. Heat condition C material at 482°C (900°F) for 1 h before cooling.

Heat solution treated material at 955°C (1750°F) for 10 min in A1750 condition followed. R100 condition is cooled at -73°C (-100°F) for 8 h within 1 h of treating to A1750 condition. Heat again at 510°C (950°F) for 1 h in the RH 950 condition.

Heat at 760°C (1400°F) after fabrication for 90 min in the condition T. Cool again at 13°C (55°F) for 0.5 h within 60 min. Heated at 565°C (1050°F) for 90 min in TH1050 condition. Cool in airr.

Hot Working

15-7 stainless steel hot works well. Anneal afterward to respond to heat treatment.

Cold Working

Grade 15-7 stainless steel is limited to cold working.

Annealing

Anneal at 1038°C (1900°F). Cool rapidly.
