Fabrication and Heat Treatment

Machinability

MP35N can be machined once cold worked and aged. Use high-speed steel or carbide and make use of cutting fluids such as soluble oil, sulfurized oil, or chlorinated oil.

Welding

Use the same process and precautions as with 304 stainless steel.

Cold Working

Cold working is critical for MP35N. For further hardening, age after cold work.

Applications

MP35N is used in the following applications:

  • Fasteners
  • Springs
  • Wire
  • Cables
  • Medical prostheses
  • Pump shafts
  • Valve stems
  • Pressure housings
  • Cold-worked tubing
