Supplier 430 Stainless Steel (UNS S43000)

Properties and Appearance

Stainless steel grade 430 is a ferritic stainless steel that is magnetic and has good corrosion resistance in mild environments. Grade 430 stainless steel is non-hardenable. This ferric metal has good formability. It is less expensive than other grades of stainless steel, making it a popular choice for a variety of applications.

Fabrication, Heat Treatment & Machinability

Stainless steel grade 430 is easier to machine than other austenitic steels, but it can gall. Welding requires pre-heating at 150-200°C (302-392°F). Use grade 430, 308L, 309 or 310 filler rods. For solution annealing, heat to 815 – 845°C (1499-1553°F). Slow furnace cool to 600°C (1112°F). Air cool quickly.

Applications

Grade 430 stainless steel is used in the following applications:

  • Automotive parts
  • Building materials
  • Dish washer linings
  • Electrical components
  • Element supports and fasteners
  • Jewelry
  • Kitchen utensils
  • Machined parts
  • Pumps
  • Refrigerator cabinet panels
  • Sinks
  • Stove trim rings and chimney liners
  • Valves
