Pure Nickel 200 Series Comparison (200, 201, 205, 233 and 270)
Pure Nickel 200 series alloys, such as Nickel 200, 201, 205, 233, and 270 are all commercially pure nickel alloys and share similar characteristics. They are known for their excellent resistance to corrosion, particularly in reducing environments, and their high thermal and electrical conductivity. Pure Nickel 200 series materials can also be used in similar industrial applications, including chemical processing, aerospace, and electronics. Though, slight variations make each Nickel 200 series material suitable for different specialized applications.
Composition
- All these alloys are primarily composed of nickel (around 99% or higher), with minor variations in the levels of trace elements like carbon, sulfur, and manganese.
- They exhibit similar corrosion resistance, especially in reducing environments like acids, alkalis, and neutral salt solutions.
- They all have good mechanical properties, including high ductility and toughness.
Pure Nickel 200 Series Comparison (200, 201, 205, 233 and 270)
Composition |
|
Nickel 200 | Composed of approximately 99.6% pure nickel, with small amounts of other elements like iron, manganese, silicon, and carbon. |
Nickel 201 | Similar to Nickel 200 but with a lower carbon content (maximum 0.02% compared to Nickel 200’s 0.15%). |
Nickel 205 | Similar to 200 but with higher purity and slightly different trace elements for specific electrical applications. |
Nickel 233 | Nickel 233 is a controlled composition of nickel with specific alloying elements added to enhance certain properties. |
Nickel 270 | Nickel 270 is a high-purity version of nickel, with even fewer impurities than Nickel 200 (about 99.98% nickel). |
Properties |
|
Nickel 200 | Standard grade with excellent mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance, especially in alkaline environments. Good thermal and electrical conductivity. |
Nickel 201 | Its lower carbon content makes Nickel 201 more resistant to embrittlement at higher temperatures, making it suitable for applications involving temperatures above 600°F (315°C). |
Nickel 205 | Nickel 205 has enhanced electrical properties, making it especially suitable for applications requiring high electrical conductivity. |
Nickel 233 | Optimized for specific corrosive environments, although less commonly used. |
Nickel 270 | High purity gives Nickel 270 superior performance in highly sensitive applications. It has excellent thermal and electrical conductivity and is less prone to contamination. |
Applications |
|
Nickel 200 | Commonly used in electrical and electronic parts, chemical processing equipment, and food handling equipment. |
Nickel 201 | Used in applications that require good corrosion resistance and where the material may be exposed to high temperatures, such as in chemical processing, electronics, and aerospace. |
Nickel 205 | Primarily used in electrical and electronic applications, such as components for vacuum tubes and electrical resistors. |
Nickel 233 | Used in specialized applications where a balance of corrosion resistance and mechanical strength is required. |
Nickel 270 | Used in the manufacture of electronic components, high-purity chemical handling equipment, and other applications where ultra-high purity is critical. |
