Super Invar 32-5 Supplier

Super Invar 32-5 Properties and Appearance

Super Invar 32-5 is a magnetic, austenitic, alloy primarily containing iron together with nickel and cobalt. It has minimum thermal expansion at room temperatures and exhibits austenite stability. It is used in in many applications including structural components for precision instrument systems.

Super Invar 32 is somewhat difficult to machine, we can help you with further information on recommendations. Parts should be heat treated at or as close to finish size as possible as processes such as machining, forming, and deep drawing introduce stresses which can cause variation in thermal expansion. When annealing, heat to 1450°F and hold for 30 minutes per inch of thickness, then air cool. Temperature above 1000°F relieves the presence of cold work stresses, note that the higher the temperature, the lower the annealed hardness. The suggested forging temperature is 2000 / 2150°F. Heat rapidly and avoid long soaking time as this may cause a checked surface due to contamination. It is recommended to use a soft silicon carbide wheel and for finishing grinding, start with 80 grit.
