Alloy 52

Properties and Appearance

Alloy 52 is an iron-nickel alloy composed of approximately 52% nickel and 48% iron. It is a highly lustrous silvery-white metal and belongs in the controlled expansion alloy group. This alloy has low thermal expansion properties and remains nearly constant up to a temperature of 565°C. This makes it ideal for applications for dimensional stability across varying temperatures below this level. Alloy 52 also has magnetic properties and can easily be machined. Alloy 52 makes for excellent metal-to-glass seals, hermetic seals, electronic applications, and telecommunications devices, mainly in the military, aerospace, and medical fields.

Applications

  • Glass to metal seals
  • Hermetic seals
  • Electronic applications
  • Telecommunications devices
  • Medical applications
  • Magnetic reed switches
  • Semiconductor applications
