MoCu Alloy
MoCu is a high-performance alloy composed of Molybdenum and Copper. It combines high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, non-magnetic, good machinability and exceptional high-temperature performance. It is well-suited for applications requiring very high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance.
MoCu Alloy Properties
MoCu is both strong and hard at high temperatures with high melting point varying on composition and ranging from 1800°C to 2200°C (3272°F to 3992°F). It is ideal for making components in jet engines, turbines, and rocket motors. MoCu is resistant to oxidation with a protective oxide layer on its surface to help prevent further degradation, which again is valuable in high-temperature environments. MoCu also has electrical conductivity with the most common use for MoCu is heat sinks for electronic devices.
The typical composition of MoCu alloy is:
Molybdenum: 70-80%
Copper: 20-30%
Trace elements may be added to enhance specific properties or improve manufacturability. These can include nickel to add corrosion resistance, titanium for strength and resistance to oxidation , zirconium to improve grain.
Applications
- Aerospace turbine blades and vanes
- Chemical processing
- Electronic components including contacts and heat sinks
- Industrial furnace components, high-temperature tooling
- Rocket nozzle components and heat shields
