Nickel Thermocouple Alloy Supplier

Nickel alloys are widely utilized for thermocouples and thermocouple extension wire used in measuring temperature. Thermocouple alloys are the conjunction of two dissimilar metals that create a thermoelectric effect where they join. This thermal junction is sensitive to temperature variations and provides a measurable voltage change as the temperature changes. By controlling the alloy composition of each leg of the thermocouple, you can control the response of the material.

Materials commonly associated with this application include the following:

Alumel®, nickel-aluminum, is usually used alongside Chromel®, nickel-chromium, to create type K thermocouples. Due to the achievable measurement range and good resistance to oxidation, these alloys are widely used in applications such as kilns, furnaces and other high temperature applications.

Constantan®, copper-nickel, is known for its relatively constant electrical resistance over a wide temperature range and is used in Type E thermocouples and paired with chromel for low-temperature applications (down to -268°C). It offers good corrosion resistance and is often used with copper for applications in Type T thermocouples commonly deplopyed in the the food industry.

Alumel and Chromel are a valuable combination for high-temperature applications in type K thermocouples. Constantan, with its stable electrical properties, finds use in multiple thermocouple types, including those for low-temperature and food processing environments.
